New Scientist reports that Skyview High School in Fairfax County, Virginia, will become the first US high school with its own quantum computer: a four-qubit, room-temperature XeedQ XQ1 built to withstand classroom conditions.

Rather than running complex programs, the system is meant to give students an intuition for how qubits behave. They will prepare and read out quantum states, shape the control pulses themselves, and study the effect of noise, working in small teams and learning Python along the way.

FCPS Superintendent Michelle Reid describes it as a bet on a rapidly growing career path, with the XQ1 starting in maths and physics classes and opening to students from other Fairfax schools through weekend programmes.
