Quantum on the Move: XQ1 takes the Tram to Ulm’s Long Evening of Science 2025

In a first for quantum computing — and public transport — XeedQ’s XQ1 made history as the only quantum computer in the world to travel on a tram! Destined for Ulm University’s Long Evening of Science 2025, XQ1 was elegantly wheeled through the campus and arrived intact, operational, and ready for a live performance unlike any other.

The event, which welcomed over 2,000 visitors including families, students, and science enthusiasts, offered an exciting evening of discovery across more than 90 lectures and experiments. XeedQ was proud to be part of this vibrant celebration of research and innovation.

Our live demo gave guests a rare and up-close look at actual quantum hardware — no cryogenics, no massive server rooms. Just robust, room-temperature quantum computing powered by spins in diamond, made to move and made to work anywhere.

From showcasing NV-centre technology to answering the thoughtful questions of future scientists, the XeedQ team was thrilled to share the excitement of quantum technology with a diverse audience. Few quantum systems today can claim this level of mobility — fewer still can perform outside of a lab environment. The XQ1 does both, pushing boundaries on how and where quantum computing can be deployed.

A heartfelt thank you to Ulm University and its fantastic Marketing Department for the flawless organization and warm welcome. The collaboration and curiosity we witnessed remind us that the future of quantum isn’t just coming — it’s already here, and it just rode the tram.
